Couple that with my suspicions of the not-entirely-accidental omission of most of my accounts from the coin process, and I'll be the last one writing apologetics for Anet.
I was just giving him a bit of insight on how he might be underestimating the complexity of it.

Yeah, I get your point Targren. My response doesn't direct at you, which is why I didn't quote your message (like I did here).

There are a lot of things to take into account when writing code. Variables, function calls etc and when writing code you can quite easily and quite often find things happening you didn't expect or want.
It's very easy to make mathematical or logical errors when writing code, and without many hours of debugging sometimes you can miss them. In fact, I've had a lot of scripts compile, only to find an error at a later date (human error, not scripting error, because the computer actually compiled and ran the script). It's all too likely Anet is encountering these issues with their skeleton staff for GW1 and probably need to spend a lot more time debugging and QA testing these things.
|
Then perhaps they should concentrate a bit more on testing rather than trying to revise the whole system (for the record, my title at work is "Software Engineer", but really what I'm doing is software testing, so I may be a bit biased when it comes to the importance of testing).
As others have noted, if the XTH problems were new (as in, introduced with this update), then it would be understandable. But we've always had problems with point distribution. Not as widely spread as this, of course, but look at the number of people saying "yay I get to submit a ticket for XTH points again this month!"
This should be a relatively simple process. There are probably going to be issues like what Targren mentioned, but the way ArenaNet is handling this makes it seem like there's some luckless intern with a list of accounts manually adding points after comparing to the list of tournament winners. Given how long it takes to allocate points also makes me think they're doing the point allocation manually. And they have no way to double check, it seems, since the only way they know if someone didn't get points is if that person opens a support ticket.
I should mention that I'm not upset that I didn't get points on all of my accounts. But almost everything about the XTH says "inept" to me. It just makes them look bad when there are problems with this every single month.

No xth points still, and I also noticed that my May predictions are still locked in, and I cannot predict for either GvG or 1v1 at all. >_<

We understand your frustrations with the system, believe me we do. The back end for XTH is extremely complicated. It was a system built into a game that wasn't originally built to support it. Because of this, unpredictability in the code happens. On the outside it looks like the same issue, because people don't get points. On the back end, the bugs that happen are often not the same as previously seen. So, we do sincerely apologize for this, and we're discussing the issues extensively.

Nondeterminism Gogogo woohoo.
So, any comment on the speculation about targeting users with multiple accounts?

Tnx for the info update, Brinstar!
To be honest, I don't feel like overloading support with tickets... Don't they usually fix it with one big patch or something? Since so many people are having problems, I don't think they'll fix it account by account, right?
Well, will probably open a ticket tomorrow if there is no other news...

i didnt get my point im gonna say oh well too much pain to do the support thingy. instead im hoping they really do fix there problem which i thought that big update of the xunlai house was. i didnt think it would cause more problems then it supposebly solved but hey im done a decent amount of programming in my life so i know sometimes you take one step forward then next time three steps back hopefully the next step will correct it just wish they would have tested it fully before implementing it but hey microsoft does the same thing. kind of reminds me of a movie a long time ago the mailman who was delivering a product dropped 3/4 of the mail on the way to the doorstep kind same thing anet does when delivering the points

I'm on my last thread with ANet service. Seriously people think it's so fantastic that we don't have to pay a monthly fee, but honestly, would you pay for this service? I shouldn't have to go out of my way to file a support ticket just to get what I should have gotten already. I don't even know what a support ticket is. I'm sick of Regina and her bull shit excuses and solutions. She never addresses the problem directly, she just gives some half ass explanation and expects us to not ask any more questions. But I don't know what's worse: her half ass explanations, or the way most of you people eat it up and kiss her ass just for showing her existence on the forum. This is a typical Regina post and then the community reaction:
Regina: We are working on the problem and someday in the future there may be a solution but we cannot release any information on what we are doing to fix the problem or when it will be fixed. You may get an update in the future.
Community: OHHH MY GOD REGINA THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU'RE OUR GOD THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS GAME AND DOING ALL THE WORK SINGLE HANDEDLY! WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT YOU? WHERE? I'LL TELL YOU WHERE, WE'D BE PLAYING RUNESCAPE OH NOES!
Seriously I'm sick of ANet's bull shit.

So uhh... does this mean you are still wanting the live support team to waste some more time answering tickets before fixing the problem? Or are we good and the need for submitting tickets is no longer needed...

I personally know a case of a player who did NOT bet last month and got his 55 RPs today.
I think they might have unintentionally lost all the data and are now giving random points to everyone.

Okay, I understand you're upset that the system isn't working properly.
Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but they're free. You did very little to deserve the points.
You wouldn't see a beggar recieve a bag of muffins, and throw it away because he can't get the wrapping off.

you are right, that was useless. This thread was created by Regina to address known problems. Why don't you take it up with her?

This totally sucks. Nothing yet so I sent in a support ticket. I got the support email and sent a single email to the support team with all the accounts having the issue in it. I heard back from them and it said it was received. So maybe that's what everyone can do instead of sending individual support tickets for each account.
But yeah, this is uber fail. I forgot they changed the way you submit your votes. That's probably got something to do with this. They should give us double points just for putting up with this.
I know many people are rapidly losing interest in this game and with the failed updates for the past few months, business is going to be lost. I'm hoping the reasons for the bad updates are due to progress on Guild Wars 2 despite the lack of information regarding it.

I do not know if you deserve an answer but I will give you one.
- I can understand that sometime the system can be faulty but not so often as it's happening lately.
- Yes they are free, but you have to do something to get them and I do not remember asking for the XHT so if it is there and available it should be working. Disappointing too many customers; players is not a very good advertising for your business.
- If for example I give a bag of muffins to a beggar, freely, I would make sure he can eat them, no wrapping!
PS. I did not receive my points, I wont go mad about it but I'll be a bit "more" upset at ArenaNet and when I have had enough I'll just stop playing GW.
